The Maltese Goat is very much in demand because it produces
large quantities of milk with a high protein and fat content. It is very
prolific and well adapted to resist heat stress.
DNA markers which serve as anchors for mapping have
been found in the genome of the Maltese Goat. These are suitable to pursue
genetic improvement of species to provide better yields of valuable products.
Using the method of Random Amplification of Polymorphic
DNA (RAPD), different banding patterns are obtained using different primers.
Different genetic profiles are obtained using the same
RAPD primer on different DNA templates.
